In the mid 80’s Tom sold his contracting company to become
an exclusive independent representative for a German based
specialty resin supplier called Silikal North America.
Silikal was new to the US market at the time so Tom
pioneered and developed a market for the newly arrived
methylmethacrylate (acrylic) resin flooring system Silikal
manufactured. He had exclusive rights in a twelve state area
in the Midwest which often took him throughout the world as
his customer base grew to include multi-national
corporations. At that time Tom utilized the new and
emerging, cutting edge computer based marketing and sales
programs educating architects, engineers, end users and
contractors about this exciting, newly imported technology
from Germany. To quote the competition “Tom made Silikal a
household name in the resinous flooring community”.
Silikal was sold in the late
90’s and absorbed by a large conglomerate and no longer
exists. Now close to thirty-five years later Tom continues
to put his vast knowledge to work here in the United States,
as well as at various locations around the world as a
consultant advising contractors, resinous flooring
manufacturers and other small, medium and large corporations
about business practices that include company infrastructure
development, market trends and processes primarily, but not
limited to, the resinous flooring market.
In the past, some of these services were Pro Bono to
contractors Tom dealt with to help increase their sales. He
assisted in business development ideas and practices to
facilitate a professional appearance in the market place and
also streamlined mundane office chores to free up the
contractors staff to spend more time on more productive
profitable endeavors such as customer relationship
management, marketing and sales, market intelligence, and
company/project financial awareness, among other processes
through the use of the new emerging computer based
technology.
With nearly 35 years of history and expertise from working
in this field, and the lessons learned over that time period
as a contractor, independent representative and a material
supplier, Contraks.com was the natural result of a long
journey that took Tom throughout the United States and the
world acquiring and developing these special skills.
